Apparently, calling for “an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules” is just too much to ask of Congressional Republicans. Because even before President Obama had started delivering his State of the Union address last night, GOP lawmakers were recycling their old talking points about how he’s trying to divide Americans.

Now Republicans are trying to play politics with our checkbooks by fighting an extension of the payroll tax cut for 160 million working Americans. Tell Republicans – pass the payroll tax cut now, and pay for it by closing loopholes for the wealthy and demanding a minimum tax rate of 30 percent for millionaires.

Republicans believe that millionaires who make money off investments are entitled to pay lower taxes than Americans who work for a living – and if we don’t like it, we’re promoting the “bitter politics of envy.”

Their vision for America is to raise taxes on hard-working families so millionaires can pay even less and Wall Street can keep breaking the rules at our expense. They even think that President Obama’s efforts to ask millionaires to pay their fair share are “almost un-American,” despite polls indicating that 55 percent of Americans believe upper income Americans pay less than their fair share of taxes.

In America, our economy works best when everyone pays their fair share, not when millionaires pay less in taxes than working Americans. Sign our petition demanding that Congressional Republicans pass the payroll tax cut, close expensive unnecessary loopholes, and mandate a minimum tax rate of 30 percent for millionaires.
