Progress Michigan Executive Director on Medicaid Expansion

“With every ticking second the Senate wastes, Michigan tax-dollars are being sent to other states,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Today Senator Patrick Colbeck refused to cast his vote against Medicaid expansion, which avoided a tie that would have been broken by Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley’s vote of support. Senator Colbeck should know this is not a game and people’s lives are at stake. It is completely unacceptable that Colbeck and his Tea Party cohorts continue to play partisan games with people’s healthcare – and Michigan’s future. We’ve already passed the threshold where implementation can occur by Jan. 1. Every single day that passes without implementation takes money out of the pockets of hard-working Michiganders to fund healthcare for people in other states. Unfortunately, Governor Rick Snyder was unable to wrangle his party to action and opposition from Michigan’s Tea Party faction proved too strong for establishment Republicans to overcome. The far-right’s inability to govern raises grave concerns for Michigan and America.”
