Progress Michigan Statement on Sixth Circuit Court Marriage Equality Ruling
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan issued the following statement in response to a federal appellate court ruling that upheld Michigan’s marriage equality ban.
“Discriminatory laws barring loving couples from the freedom to marry will not stand for much longer,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Michigan’s conservative lawmakers, much like the court’s decision today, are not on the right side of history and, ultimately, equality will prevail. This is nothing more than a temporary setback on the road to a more progressive and accepting Michigan.”
