Darnell Earley Must Tell Congress What He Knew and When He Knew It

While children deal with fallout of Flint Water Crisis, Earley seeks to hide truth

LANSING — Progress Michigan is calling on former Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley to testify before Congress about the water crisis that happened under his watch in Flint.

“Children in Flint are having their blood tested, families must have their water tested and yet Darnell Earley is refusing to face the simple test of answering questions about his involvement and knowledge of what happened in Flint,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “People in Flint deserve to know the truth about how their water was poisoned but Darnell Earley doesn’t think the people deserve the truth.”

Even though Earley has announced his resignation Governor Rick Snyder still has the authority to direct Earley to testify since he will remain state employee through the end of this month. Progress Michigan is calling on Governor Snyder to use his power and order Earley to testify.

“Since the beginning of this crisis, Rick Snyder has failed to take decisive action to help the people of Flint on the ground or to get to the truth. If Darnell Earley attempts to run and hide from accountability, Snyder should order him to do what’s right and answer questions before Congress,” Scott continued. “When it comes to forcing Earley to testify, the buck stops with Snyder. We’ll soon see if the governor takes relentless positive action and orders Earley to testify or if he will fail yet another test of his leadership.”
