Flint Water Task Force Report: Snyder Administration Failed Flint

Snyder focused on long-term solutions; Families in Flint in need of real solutions now

LANSING — Today, the Flint Water Task Force released its final report regarding the Flint Water Crisis. Progress Michigan released the following statement after the report was released.

“This report rightly lays most of the blame at the feet of people who answered directly to Governor Rick Snyder, including his appointed emergency managers,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “At the same time, the report confirms that the only reason the world knows about the crisis in Flint is because of the heroism of the people of Flint, who refused to stay silent or take the Snyder administration’s ‘sit down and shut up’ attitude for an answer.”

Governor Snyder stated that he is focused on long-term solutions. In the meantime, the people of Flint are dealing with illness, loss of property values, fear, trauma and are still without clean water.

“Rick Snyder should focus on the long-term needs but that is no excuse for dragging his feet on the immediate needs of the people of Flint,” Scott continued. “Every day that goes by without real, meaningful help on the ground from the state allows this crisis to get worse. People in Flint are dealing with many day-to-day issues and deserve services in the short-term to go along with long-term plans. The Governor should start by meeting with the people of Flint, not telephone town halls, but actual face-to-face public forums with the residents who have been poisoned by his policy decisions. He needs to hear directly from them regarding the services and help they need immediately.”
