Michigan Republicans Choose Their Donors Over Detroit Children
Detroit Public Schools package creates more problems for students; protects bad charter operators
LANSING — Tonight, the House and Senate Republicans sent a bill to Governor Snyder’s desk that fails to address the long-standing fiscal problems caused by state appointed emergency managers. The bill also creates incentives for profit-driven charter operators to take dollars from our children by failing to hold them accountable for spending our education dollars responsibly.
“The Republican’s presumptive nominee has spent months making racist statements around the country,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “With their actions tonight, Republicans in Lansing are sending a clear signal that racism does not end with rhetoric but plays a key role in their policy agenda. Each member that voted for their donors over children should be ashamed, but Michigan Republicans have proven time and time again that when it comes to the well-being of children of color in Michigan, they have no shame.”
The bills go the Governor’s desk for his signature.
