Progress Michigan: Time for Fouts to Resign
Racist remarks only latest in scandals surrounding Warren mayor
MICHIGAN — Allegations of racist, sexist, and discriminatory remarks continue to pile up around Warren Mayor Jim Fouts and Progress Michigan is calling on him to step down.
The latest batch of racist and sexist audio recordings were released by Motor City Muckracker today after other audio recordings surfaced in December of Fouts making disparaging remarks about people with special needs.
“Citizens deserve to know that their elected officials respect everyone regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation or special needs they may have and clearly Mayor Fouts has broken that trust. It’s time for him to resign,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “All too often, the words people use to disparage others lead to discriminatory treatment of those folks out in the community. Elected officials are put into a position by their constituents that comes with power and responsibilities — and Mayor Fouts is no longer deserving of that position. The people of Warren deserve better.”
