Progress Michigan Names Representative Darrin Camilleri ‘Legislator of the Month’

Camilleri awarded for bills to clean up the tax code and his commitment to every child’s right to literacy

LANSING — Progress Michigan has named Representative Darrin Camilleri the Legislator of the Month for February. Representative Camilleri was chosen for his work to clean up the tax code by repealing the 2011 pension tax and to exempt seniors from the recent increase in vehicle registrations fee as well as his resolution to make literacy a civil right.

“Representative Camilleri has hit the ground running in his first term, introducing legislation that will benefit his constituents and all people in Michigan,” said Hugh Madden, communications director of ProgressMichigan. “Over the last six years, Republicans have given tax break after tax break to corporate special interests at the expense of working people, children and seniors. Representative Camilleri knows firsthand the effects of the these actions on the Downriver area and we are pleased that he is working to address it by cleaning up our tax code and guaranteeing students’ right to literacy.”

The Legislator of the Month award is given to an elected official who demonstrates a commitment to government that is of, by, and for the people.
