Progress Michigan Names Senator Curtis Hertel, Jr. ‘Legislator of the Month’
Hertel honored for introducing legislation to keep petition circulators honest when collecting signatures
LANSING — Progress Michigan has named State Senator Curtis Hertel, Jr. the Legislator of the Month for June. Senator Hertel was named for introducing legislation that will ensure that petition circulators tell the truth when asking for citizens for signatures.
“People deserve to be told the truth when approached for their signature. Too many campaigns are afraid to tell voters the truth about their proposals and purposefully misstate their intentions. This legislation puts people first by guaranteeing that unscrupulous petition gathers are held accountable,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “Senator Hertel deserves this award for standing up for the people’s right to honesty in our electoral process and we are proud to honor him as our Legislator of the Month.”
The Legislator of the Month award is given to an elected official who demonstrates a commitment to a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
