Progress Michigan Statement on U.S. Senate Healthcare Vote
Republican Senators betrayed the American people
MICHIGAN — Progress Michigan released the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate Republicans’ vote to advance the repeal of the Affordable Care Act:
“Republicans are gearing up to drop a bomb on the American healthcare system and tens of millions of people in this country will be caught in the blast. If Republicans get what they want, we’ll have scores of people suffering without access to affordable healthcare. Today’s vote was a shameful alignment of Senate Republicans, who are choosing to stand with their wealthy corporate donors, against the American people,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “This vote is personal for me. I’m a diabetic, which means in the eyes of Senate Republicans, I don’t deserve affordable healthcare coverage. Same goes for the millions of other people with pre-existing conditions. Today was a shot across the bow and Republicans have decided to wage war on Americans’ livelihood and health. We won’t be silent. This attack won’t go unanswered.”
