New Call for Second Look at GOP Effort to Gut Earned Paid Sick Time

Sen. Chang asks Dana Nessel to look into constitutionality of ‘adopt and amend’

MICHIGAN — State Senator Stephanie Chang is asking Attorney General Dana Nessel to issue an opinion on the Republican’s 2018 effort to gut the earned paid sick time ballot proposal. Progress Michigan is supportive of the development.

“We’re glad to see Sen. Stephanie Chang ask for the attorney general to weigh in on this issue,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “The Republican legislature last year skirted around the constitution at the behest of their corporate donors at the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. By doing their corporate donors’ bidding, the Republicans subverted the will of the people and took an ax to a policy that would have helped every single Michigander who doesn’t have the opportunity to earn paid sick time. We hope Attorney General Nessel will take up this issue and there can be some justice for the working people of Michigan who were denied this opportunity to have a say in their government.”
