Required Skills, Abilitiies, and Experience

  • Personal commitment to the mission and goals of SEIU and to the specific program of SEIU Healthcare Michigan
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy on Windows-based computer programs in order to perform necessary campaign data management and administrative work.
  • Willingness and ability to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills.
  • The ability to work with people from various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Having a valid drivers’ license, use of car for all working hours, and automobile insurance are mandatory conditions of employment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess, identify, recruit, and develop home care members into activists and leaders via house visits, meetings, phone calls and other communications.
  • Assist in developing leaders through conducting meetings and trainings providing tools and support to help members achieve goals regarding execution of the Local’s program.
  • Engage in strategic thinking to assess issues, evaluate a campaign and its components, achieve goals of the union in the field and provide reports to local leadership.
  • Help develop and implement plans to mobilize and lead members in key union activities including organizing, grassroots lobbying, issue campaigns and other activities.
  • Assist in building coalitions with community allies and partners.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.
