Progressive Groups Offer Support to Good Jobs Now
Progress Michigan, America Votes Michigan offer support to Good Jobs Now family, community
MICHIGAN — Following the tragic shooting of two Good Jobs Now canvassers in Detroit, Progress Michigan and America Votes Michigan released the following statement of support and condolences for the victims, their families, and their friends at Good Jobs Now. On Tuesday, two GJN canvassers were shot while encouraging people to vote on November 6th. One of those canvassers was killed, and the other is in the hospital.
“What happened yesterday was a total shock to everyone in the progressive community and we will rally to support the families of those affected and our friends and colleagues at Good Jobs Now however we can during this painful time,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “These canvassers were doing honorable work by getting information out to folks about exercising their right to vote, and it senselessly ended in violence. Here at Progress Michigan, we’ll be waiting to hear from organizers how we can further assist during this trying time.”
“Canvassers are part of the backbone in the fight to create a more equitable future for everyone,” said Patrick Schuh, state director of America Votes Michigan. “The canvassers at Good Jobs Now who were attacked in Detroit were doing noble work for a good cause. We’re heartbroken to hear about the violence they endured doing such an important job. I know that the whole progressive community is going to wrap our arms around the folks with Good Jobs Now and the families of those affected to offer them support and comfort.”
